New Leadership Team to Guide the
Sparkill Community into the Future
Every 6 years, the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill elect a new team of Sisters to guide the congregation in living out their mission and ministry. On Saturday, June 25, the Transfer of Leadership to a new team was celebrated at Dominican Convent in Sparkill with a Mass and luncheon. Family, friends, and members of neighboring religious communities joined the Sparkill congregation for a beautiful celebration, occurring at an important time in the history of the community as well as in the world at large. Sr. Mary Murray, the congregation’s President, reflected on the day and the work that lies ahead for this new Leadership Team:
“One of the most meaningful aspects of our recent Chapter meeting (the highest form of governance for religious communities) was having our Sisters come together in prayer, conversation and celebration to set the direction for our next 6 years as a congregation. At the end of our meeting, not only was a new Leadership Team elected, but we had created a formal statement to guide us in our ministries and community life during these next 6 years. The Statement is a response to the needs we see around us in our world today. Our Leadership Team feels so energized and excited about this direction and looks forward to putting it into action, which will help us continue being a positive presence in our ever-changing world.”
The Sparkill community is grateful for the service of Sr. Lorraine LaRocca and Sr. Carolyn Wolfbauer, both of whom leave the Leadership Team after serving 2 terms (the longest one can consecutively serve in this role.) Four Sisters from the previous Team were re-elected: Sr. Irene Ellis, Sr. Eileen Gannon, Sr. Mary Murray, and Sr. Margaret Palliser; and one new member, Sr. Grace Hogan, will join the Team.
Please join us in prayerful support of the new Sparkill Leadership Team, pictured below! May the Holy Spirit guide them in the work ahead during their 2016-2022 term.
