My Congregation has entrusted me with the ministry of full time artist. Being an artist is a giving of one's life over to bring the excellence of truth into being as no one else has ever done. To design and assemble a stained glass window, paint an image of an endangered species, or fashion a new promotional campaign as no one else has ever imagined, is to bring forth the creativity of God in yet a different way. As a religious sister the call to create originates in prayer. My prayer includes participation in the daily celebration of the Eucharist, praying the Office, saying the Rosary, spending time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament and keeping a daily journal of my thoughts about the Scripture readings for the day. My Community life keeps me grounded, as I work to emulate the virtues extolled in the life of Jesus - prayerfulness, kindness, patience, love, mercy, compassion, gentleness, and forgiveness. I have had extensive formal educational opportunities, but the blank white paper before me is possibly my greatest teacher, as what I put on it becomes a new life that will out last me. In considering all the wonderful art of the past, this is a humbling thought.
