The Dominican Sisters extend a warm invitation to all community members, whether you're a regular participant or joining us for the first time, to our monthly Rosary for Peace on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 7:00 PM ET. We value your presence at our virtual gathering on Zoom or YouTube live as we pray together.
The Rosary, a Scripture-based prayer, is a powerful tool for spiritual enrichment. It guides us through profound events (“Mysteries”) in Mary and Jesus's lives that are remembered throughout the liturgical year. The repetition in the Rosary is a journey that leads one into restful and contemplative prayer related to each Mystery, offering a path to inner peace and profound spiritual growth that you can experience by participating in our Rosary for Peace. Your participation can inspire a deeper connection with God and inner peace, and a journey of spiritual growth that is both profound and inspiring.
As Dominicans, we pray the Rosary in an ancient Catholic manner, affirming that the Rosary is 'the layperson's breviary.' The introductory prayers are based on the opening prayers from the Liturgy of the Hours, a set of prayers that mark the hours of each day and are a vital part of the Church's liturgical life.
In addition to your intentions this month, we pray for an end to violence throughout the world, especially in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, Haiti, and Myanmar. This past Saturday, September 21, was the International Day for Peace.
In a world with rising geopolitical tensions and protracted conflicts, there has never been a better time to pray for and cultivate a culture of peace. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Declaration and Program of Action on a Culture of Peace. In that declaration, the United Nations’ most inclusive body recognized that peace “not only is the absence of conflict, but also requires a positive, dynamic participatory process where dialogue is encouraged and conflicts are solved in a spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation."
We encourage you to look at our Rosary Outline for Participants, which will help you prepare for our Rosary for Peace. It provides a detailed guide on how to participate and what to expect during the event.
