Sister Patricia Connolly, OP

Sister Patricia Connolly, OP, of the Dominican Sisters, Sparkill, New York, died on March 13, 2025, in Montefiore Nyack Hospital, Nyack, NY. Sister was 95 years old and living her 78th year of religious life.

Born in New York City on June 3, 1929, Patricia was the daughter of Martin and Mary Gibbons Connolly. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1947, and received the name Sister Kevin Marie. She professed first vows in 1949 and final vows in 1954.

Sister Patricia received a BA in English from Manhattan College in 1953; an MS in Chemistry from Villanova University in 1964; and Administration and Supervision Certification from St. John’s University in 1982.

Sister Patricia taught in the following schools: St. Teresa, Woodside, NY (1949-1953); Holy Family, Hicksville, NY (1953-1955); St. Rose of Lima, NYC (1955-1960); Albertus Magnus HS, Bardonia, NY (1960-1967); St. Edmund HS, Brooklyn, NY (1967-1975, teacher, 1975-1981, Assistant Principal, Principal, 1981-1986); Monsignor McClancy HS, Brooklyn, NY (1986-1987); St. John Chrysostom (teacher, 1987-2002, and volunteer from 2002-2005). 

Sister Patricia is predeceased by her parents Martin and Mary Gibbons Connolly,
brother James, and sisters Julie, Sheila, and Maureen. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, Dominican Sisters, Associates, and friends.

Sister Patricia made a difference in the lives of countless children, parents, and colleagues in her ministry as a teacher and administrator. She brought commitment and joy to all she encountered. For over 75 years, Sister Patricia lived the Dominican Sisters’ mission of proclaiming the Word of God through ministry for justice and reverence for all creation. Rest in peace, good and faithful servant, Sister Patricia Connolly, OP. May God hold you in the hollow of his hand!
