Care of Creation

Proclaiming the Reign of God through reverence for all creation

In his 2015 landmark encyclical, Laudato Sí , Pope Francis invited the worldwide community of Catholics to join with others urging us to respond to the cry of Earth and the cry of the poor. The Pope addressed his invitation to "every person living on this planet," initiating an inclusive dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet. Pope Francis calls the Church and the world to acknowledge the urgency of our environmental challenges and to join him in embarking on a new path.

The encyclical begins with the opening of the beautiful Canticle of the Sun by Saint Francis of Assisi: Laudato sí, mi Signore ("Praise be to you, my Lord"). In his canticle, Saint Francis reminds us that our common home is like a sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us.
