Marcella Roeger, OP

Marcella Roeger, OP, of Dominican Convent, Sparkill, New York, died on August 19, 2011 in Siena Hall Infirmary, Sparkill, NY. Born in St. Louis, MO on March 27, 1928, Marcella was the daughter of Aloysius and Catherine Ulsas Roeger. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1947 and became known as Sister Catherine Aloysius, professing her first vows in 1949 and her final vows in 1954.

Sister Marcella earned a BA in Elementary Education from Webster College in St. Louis.

During her professional life, Sister Marcella was a teacher in the Archdioceses of New York and St. Louis, and the Diocese of Brooklyn. She taught at St. Christopher, Red Hook, NY in 1971; St. Edmund, Brooklyn, NY (1964-68); and in St. Louis at St. Mark (1949-56); Holy Redeemer (1956-60); St. Simon (1960-64 and 1968-69) and St. Thomas More (1969-70). Sister was a secretary at St. Kevin School in St. Louis from 1974-77. In 1984 Sister Marcella moved to Dominican Convent and offered local community service until 1998 when she became a resident of Siena Hall Infirmary, Sparkill, NY.

We will remember Marcella for her kindness and her patience. She believed that wherever she was, she was sharing the love of Jesus for all people. No task or assignment was too small; to each she brought her care and her dedication. She loved her family and was deeply loved by them. We thank her for her sixty-four years of commitment as a Dominican Sisters of Sparkill.

May she rest in the loving arms of the God she loved so deeply.
