Sister Laura Anne Fucito, OP

Sister Laura Anne Fucito, OP passed away peacefully on May 21, 2012 in Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY. Born in New York on July 9, 1944, Laura Anne was the daughter of Crescenzio (Jack) and Carmela Licursi Fucito. She entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill on September 8, 1962 and professed her first vows in 1964 and her final vows in 1969.

Sister Laura Anne received a BS in Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, NY and a Graduate Certificate in Education from Fordham University, NY. She received a certificate from the Lay Ministry Program at Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA. Throughout her professional career, Sr. Laura was a teacher and a pastoral associate. She served in the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings. She taught elementary school at St. Gregory Barbarigo, Garnerville, NY (1966-68); St. Christopher, Red Hook, NY (1968-75); St. Helena, Bronx, NY (1975-76) and the Mission Grade School in Hays, MT (1976-77). From 1977 to the present she was pastoral associate at St. Thomas Mission Church in Lodgepole, MT. She served the Native American Indians for 36 years.

We will remember Laura for her great determination to live life to its fullest. Her compassionate and caring ways have endeared her to the people with whom she worked daily. Her trust in the God she served so faithfully for fifty years was especially evident in her acceptance of her illness these past years. We thank Laura for her life as a Dominican Sister of Sparkill. May she rest in peace and joy in the arms of her loving God.
