Sister Bridget O’Sullivan, OP

Sister Bridget O’Sullivan, OP, of the Bronx, New York died on, August 10, 2013 in Einstein Hospital, Bronx, NY. Born in the Bronx, NY, on November 13, 1928, Bridget was the daughter of Jeremiah and Sara Nash O’Sullivan. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1946 and became known as Sister Ann Eileen, professing her first vows in 1948 and her final vows in 1953.

Sister Bridget earned a BS in Education from Fordham University and an MA in Religious Studies from Manhattan College. Sister Bridget served in the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Brooklyn. She was a child Care Worker at Cardinal McCloskey (1948-1949). She was an elementary and high school teacher at St. Rose of Lima, NY, NY (1949-1954); St. Theresa, Bronx, NY (1954-55); St. Teresa, Woodside, NY (1955-62); Aquinas High School, Bronx, NY (1962-67) and St. Helena/Monsignor Scanlan High School (1967-2011). Sister Bridget was predeceased by her beloved sisters and brother, Margaret, Jerry, Mary, Sheila, and Eileen. She is survived by many loved nieces and nephews.

Sister Bridget was very proud of her Irish heritage. She will be missed by her many relatives and friends. We will remember her for her tireless commitment to the ministry of Catholic education, her unfailing kindness, great sense of humor, wonderful gift for storytelling, and her faithfulness to the God whom she served so faithfully for sixty-seven years as a Dominican Sister of Sparkill. May she rest in peace and joy in the arms of her loving God.
