Sister Anne Barbara Greene, OP

Sister Anne Barbara Greene, OP, of the Dominican Sisters, Sparkill, NY, died in Nyack Hospital on December 4, 2015. Sister Anne Barbara entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary on September 8, 1954 from St. Helena’s Parish in the Bronx. She was professed on May 16, 1956 and made her final vows on August 15, 1959.

She received a Bachelor Degree in Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill in 1959; a Nursing LPN from Misericordia Hospital in 1972; a Certificate in Theology from Immaculate Conception/Seton Hall, 1981; and did graduate work in Health Education at the Empire State College of New York.

Sister’s ministry in teaching, religious education, parish ministry, and administration were all in the Archdiocese of New York, except for three years in the Diocese of Fall River, MA with the Dominican Sisters of Hope. She ministered in Rockland County at St. Anthony’s in Nanuet, Sacred Heart in Suffern, St. Augustine in New City, and in Rosary Academy in Sparkill. She ministered at St. Joseph’s and St. Anthony’s in the Bronx and at Holy Trinity Parish in Arlington, NY.

Sister Anne Barbara was faithful to the God she loved and to the life she chose as a Dominican Sister of Sparkill. We will remember her for her kindness, generosity of spirit and love for her congregation. We thank God for her life and her goodness.

May the Lord shine His light upon her and welcome her into the company of the saints forever.
