The 5th Annual Cycling for Peace, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, was held on Saturday, September 27, on the Dominican Convent and St. Thomas Aquinas College grounds. This year is a special one as the Sisters celebrate 150 years of service helping those in need. The event drew a large crowd of friends and supporters of all ages.
Cyclists, walkers, and runners followed two marked routes on the properties. Everyone who registered received a free T-shirt and enjoyed the food, contests, and games.
The Sisters were happy to have the event at their motherhouse and came out to say “hello” to friends and family who stopped by…and to have some of the great food by Conrad’s Concessions!
The weather was beautiful as the children participated in games and contests. Our new Scavenger Hunt was a big success as participants used their detective skills to hunt for items based on fun clues. We were happy to have the Rockland Audubon Society and the Sparkill Creek Watershed Alliance at the event, in the spirit of Laudato SÍ.
We wish to thank all our donors and sponsors, as well as those who participated in the 50/50 for the 150th! One happy winner in Long Island, New York, won the grand prize of $6,010!
Siena Hall Sisters participated in the fun by having their own inside “Walk and Wheel.” We are happy to report that we raised almost $40,000! Many thanks and see you next year…and bring a friend!
