Sister Rose Respol, OP, of the Dominican Sisters, Sparkill, New York, died on April 9, 2017 in Siena Hall, Sparkill, NY.

Born in New York, NY on March 29, 1918, Mollie was the daughter of Louis and Rose Di Martini Respol. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1950 and received the name Sister Rose Dominic. She professed her first vows in 1952 and her final vows in 1957.

Sister Rose received a BS in Education, Fordham University, New York in 1957 and her MLS in Library Science from St. John’s University, New York in 1962.

Sister Rose served in the Archdiocese of New York as a teacher in St. Rita’s School, Bronx, NY (1952-1957), St. Anthony’s School, Nanuet, NY (1957-1965), Rosary Academy, Sparkill, NY (1965-1969), Aquinas High School, Bronx, NY (1969-1973), and St. Agnes, Sparkill, NY (1973-1977). Sister Rose served as a Librarian in St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, NY (1977-1979) and St. Helena Commercial High School, Bronx, NY (1979-1980). From 1980-1984 Sister Rose served on her congregation’s Executive Team and in 1984 went to teach at New Hope Manor, Barryville, NY, where she served until 2008 before coming to Dominican Convent.

Sister Rose is predeceased by her parents Louis and Rose Di Martini Respol and her brothers, George and John. She is survived by her nieces Anne, Barbara, Louise and Denise and her nephew Louis, along with several grandnieces and grandnephews and their families.

Sister Rose was a kind and compassionate person. She served her God and congregation faithfully for over sixty-seven years as a Dominican Sister of Sparkill. We thank God for her life and her goodness and we pray she be brought swiftly into the fullness of joy in the presence of the God she loved and so faithfully served. We will miss her presence among us.
