Sister Jane Carmel Dwyer, OP

Sister Jane Carmel Dwyer, OP of the Dominican Sisters, Sparkill, New York, died on February 25, 2019 in Montefiore Nyack Hospital in Nyack, NY. She was 77 years old.

Born in New York, NY on August 28,1941, Denise Ann was the daughter of Francis and Mary Stoll Dwyer. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1960 and received the name Sister Jane Carmel. She professed her first vows in 1962 and her final vows in 1967.

Sister Jane Carmel received her BS in Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, NY, 1965; her MS in Education from Fordham University, Bronx, NY, 1985.

Sister Jane Carmel taught in the Archdiocese of New York in St. John Chrysostom School, Bronx, NY (1962-1965); Most Precious Blood School, Walden (1969-1971); St. Anthony School, Nanuet (1984-2003); in the Brooklyn Diocese in St. Mary Magdalen School, Springfield Gardens, NY (1965-1969); and Our Lady of Perpetual Help School (1971-1983). From 2003-2007, Sister Jane Carmel was a staff member of Spirit Alive, Sparkill, NY. Sister Jane Carmel was retired and a resident in Dominican Convent Siena Hall.

Sister Jane Carmel was predeceased by her parents Francis and Mary Stoll Dwyer and her sisters Eileen and Patricia. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Joseph Zanga, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sister Jane Carmel was a woman who made a difference in the lives of the many students she taught. She served her God and congregation faithfully for fifty-nine years as a Dominican Sister of Sparkill. We thank God for her life in community and we pray she will enjoy the fullness of the presence of the God. We will miss her presence among us.
