Sister Winifred Marie O’Halloran, OP died on March 16, 2020 in Siena Hall, Dominican Convent, Sparkill, NY. She was 92 years old.

Born in New York City October 30, 1927 Mary Theresa was the daughter of Michael and Winifred Cloonan O’Halloran. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8,1949 and received the name Sister Winifred Marie. She professed her first vows in 1951 and final vows in 1956.

Sister Winifred Marie received a BS in Education from Fordham University, Bronx, NY,1956; an MA in Business from the College of St. Rose, Albany, NY, 1964; Certification in Sacred Theology, Providence College, RI, 1969; and certification in Administration and Supervision, State University of New York, Plattsburgh, NY, 1973.

Sister Winifred Marie began her ministry of education at St. Rose of Lima School, NY, NY (1951-1956); Sacred Heart, Suffern, NY (1956-1958); St. Helena Commercial HS, Bronx, NY (1958-1970); and assistant principal Aquinas HS, Bronx, NY (1970-1974). From 1974-2002, Sister Winifred Marie served as Educational Systems Coordinator at the Data Center of the Archdiocese of New York. From 2002 until 2012, she served in community services in Dominican Convent.

Sister Winifred Marie is predeceased by her parents Michael and Winifred Cloonan O’Halloran, her sister Margaret Pancoast (Harry), and brothers Thomas (Mary Beth) and Bernard. She is survived by her brother Michael (Patricia) and loving nieces and nephews.

Through her ministry of education, Sister Winifred Marie touched the lives of many students, parents, and colleagues by her warmth and generosity. She was committed to the Mission of the Dominican Sisters for more than 70 years proclaiming the Word of God in word and deed.
