We are proud to acknowledge several Sisters who were recently honored and/or featured in the news:
Sr. June Clare Tracy received the Lighting the Fire of Catholic Education Award for her outstanding commitment to Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of New York. During a ceremony the Superintendent of NY Archdiocesan Schools, Dr. McNiff, gave the introductory remarks citing Sr. June Clare’s outstanding dedication to Catholic Schools and to her new position as Director of Catholic Identity in the Archdiocese. He praised her as a true professional who cares deeply about the entire school community.
On November 17, Sr. Marie Peter Buckley welcomed visitors to the newest home built by Habitat for Humanity, Rockland County. As Chair of the Habitat Board, Sr. Marie Peter has been instrumental in providing a lovely two-story, three bedroom home to a homeowner/partner family. She expressed her joy that so many have worked so hard that a family might be soon living in their new home.
On October 22, Sr. Eileen Clifford received Msgr. Scanlan High School’s St. Helena Award at their annual Hall of Fame Dinner. The St. Helena Award recognizes distinguished service to the high school and the Alumni Association. Sister Eileen was and is much beloved by her former students at Scanlan. She assumed many key roles at St. Helena/Msgr. Scanlan HS including: teacher from 1968-75, Assistant Principal and Dean of Students from 1975-79, Principal from 1979-2003 and was an initial member of the Scanlan Governing Board. She has held many important and prestigious roles in the Archdiocese of New York as well, and currently serves as Vice Chancellor for the Archdiocese.
On October 14, Sr. Peggy Scarano received St. Thomas Aquinas College’s Founders Award at the school’s Annual Tribute Dinner. Founders Award recipients are honored for their tireless dedication to the ideals and values of the College’s founders (the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill,) and are recognized as exemplars of the school’s motto, “Enlighten the mind through truth.” Sister Peggy received her BS in Education from STAC in 1970, is a current member of the College’s Board of Trustees, and was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame in 2006.
