Volunteer with the Sisters at One To One Learning

One to One Learning, Inc. is a not-for-profit, outreach organization, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill. Its mission is to provide English classes and other supportive services for immigrants to empower them to reach their full potential and to lead meaningful lives in the communities in which they live and work. The organization serves Latino, Haitian, and other immigrants of Rockland County and its environs in many ways that improve the general welfare of individuals as well as the community. Under the leadership of its founding director, Sister Cecilia La Pietra, One to One is now in its 25th year.
Volunteers needed to teach:
Training will be provided in methods and use of materials. Not necessary to speak Spanish.
- ESOL classes: levels ranging from beginner, intermediate and advanced levels
- Pre-literacy classes
- Citizenship classes
- GED preparation, focusing on English reading and essay writing
Volunteers needed to assist in the children's program while parents are in class:
- Seeking adult coordinators, and seventh, eighth, and high school students to assist
- Homework assistance, reading to little ones, crafts, games, and snack time supervision
