The Haiti Circle of Concern was born In response to the devastation wrought by the massive earthquake of January 12, 2010, whose epicenter was in the region of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince. In February 2010, Sister Valorie Lordi joined in the work of two experienced Haitian missionaries, Srs. Dianne Moore, SC, and Cecilia McManus, SC, providing emergency medical care and assessing the immediate needs that could be met. Dominican Sisters and Associates from Sparkill and Caldwell have traveled to Haiti numerous times to work with the Sisters of Charity of Convent Station, NJ, to provide training, medical care, and education/training for local youth and leaders as well as the funds needed to build a well for the community and an orphanage.
