Meet Margaret Bush, an enthusiastic Sparkill Dominican Associate since 1986. Born in Long Island, and raised in the Bronx, and eventually settling in St. Louis, Margaret exemplifies Dominican itinerancy. Waking up praising God, Margaret enjoys singing the Psalms as part of her daily prayer.
Margaret first became acquainted with the Sparkill community when the Sisters came to teach in Our Lady of Grace School in the Bronx. Her second-grade teacher, Sister Marie deMontfort (Dorothy Farley), made school a happy place for her, inspiring her to become a teacher specializing in Elementary Education. She was happy to be able to go back to her alma mater, Our Lady of Grace, to teach kindergarten through third grade, and music. While teaching here, Margaret became friends with many of the Sisters who encouraged and inspired her to become an Associate.
Encouraged by her good friend, Sister Diane Aiken, Margaret ventured west to St. Louis where she has generously shared her musical talents and love of liturgy for the past 45 years as a Music Minister at Immaculate Conception Parish in Maplewood, MO. There she leads music at Sunday Mass, where she also cantors and plays the guitar. Additionally, Margaret helps with parish music coordination and serves on the liturgy committee. On the side she offers musical accompaniment to Sparkill gatherings. Sister Joan Bartin originally invited Margaret to this ministry and now Margaret has invited Associate Katie Patterson to sing with her.
Margaret loves living in South County, St. Louis, where she is close to several of the Sisters and remains closely connected with the Sparkill Community. We are deeply grateful for the melody of her life that includes us.
