On September 23, 2022, United Hospice of Rockland honored Sister Ursula Joyce, OP, with the 2022 Dr. Joe and Marsha Rand Leadership Award at their “Let's Dance Gala.” Held at the Pearl River Hilton, the annual gala raises awareness and much needed funds for United Hospice.
Sister Ursula is a founding member and has served on the Board of Directors for the past 34 years. Sister was recognized for her extraordinary contributions to Hospice and to the entire community they serve. United Hospice of Rockland declared, "Thank you to Sister Ursula for choosing United Hospice and the compassionate care that we provide as one of the many causes you champion. Since our founding you have been a constant source of energy, intelligence and compassion, bringing your many gifts to the table for the patients and families we serve.”
Hospice is only one of the many ways Sister Ursula has served the people of Rockland County. Sister was a founding member of the Rockland Family Shelter ( now the Center for Safety and Change); she recognized a crisis for victims of domestic violence and worked to provide a home for domestic violence survivors and their children. Perhaps one her greatest accomplishments was the realization of her vision for affordable senior housing; Sister Ursula was the Founding Executive Director for both Thorpe Housing and Dowling Gardens in Sparkill, NY.
