On Saturday, October 15, 2022, the Friends of the Dominican Sisters, held a golf tournament and BBQ Buffet at the Paradise Valley Golf Club in St. Louis, Missouri. Nearly 150 golfers participated in this event to benefit the retirement needs of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill. Throughout the past 14 years, Bob Laughlin has inspired many kind and generous people to donate to the Sisters through trivia nights, golf tournaments and raffles. To date Bob and friends have raised approximately $400,000 to help meet the needs of aging Sisters.
Bob’s motto and pitch line, “to help those who helped us,” comes from a deep affiliation with the Sisters and an understanding that their retirement needs are substantial. His three sisters were Dominican Sisters of Sparkill with Sister Suzanne (RIP 2019) celebrating more than 60 years of religious life. Many of the people who support these fund-raising efforts also have relatives in the Congregation or have been taught by the Sisters. Beginning with a small group from St. Mary Magdalene School, alumni, family, and friends from St. James and Epiphany schools also became active in raising funds for the Sisters.
Featured in the golf outing photo is Patty Benner, an alumna of St. Mary Magdalene school, Brentwood, Missouri. The Dominican Sisters of Sparkill are most grateful for the longstanding support of Bob, Patty, all the golfers, sponsors, and each Friend of the
Dominican Sisters in St. Louis. We appreciate and are most grateful for you. Enjoy the 19th hole!
