The Dominican Sisters of Sparkill hosted their 8th “Sparks of Light” gala on November 9 at the Rockleigh Country Club. The evening was a wonderful occasion to meet new people and rekindle long-time friendships with those who support the mission and ministry of the Sisters. The evening began with a delightful array of hors d’oeuvres and shared camaraderie, followed by the beautiful singing of the National Anthem by the Albertus Magnus High School Choir. A mission video was shown that highlighted many of the places where the Sisters are making a real difference in New York, Saint Louis, Pakistan, and around the world. After a delicious dinner, we were honored to recognize Bob Laughlin and the Friends of the Dominican Sisters; Dr. Mary Leahy, MD, CEO of Bon Secours Charity Health System/Good Samaritan Hospital; and James Salerno, SVP/CFO of Carvel. Each honoree received the Veritas Award. Veritas (Truth) is the motto of the Dominican Order of Preachers. Recipients of the Veritas Award reflect the Dominican tradition by the way they live out the Gospel of Jesus in word and deed. If you would like to view the videos of these exemplary honorees and inspirational stories, please see videos below. We also invite you to view our photo gallery. All left the evening feeling uplifted and grateful for the gift of light and faith.
