Sister Carolyn Brambilla of the Dominican Sisters, Sparkill, New York, died on December 3, 2023 in Nazareth Living Center, St. Louis, MO. Sister was 90 years old and in her 73rd year of religious life.
Born in St. Louis, MO on September 3, 1933, Carolyn Theresa was the daughter of Harry and Teresa Sasso Brambilla. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1951 and received the name Sister Maria Goretti. She professed her first vows in 1953 and final vows in 1958.
Sister Carolyn received a BS in Education from Webster College, MO in 1961.
Sister Carolyn’s ministry of education included St. Paul School, Norwich, NY (1953-1956) and in Missouri, St. Mary Magdalen School (1956-1963 and 1969-1978), and St. Thomas More School (1963-1969). She served as pastoral minister at St. Boniface Parish (1978-2005); caregiver at Sisters of St. Joseph Care Ministry (2005-2008); and telemarketer for Catholic Extension Society (2007-2009).
Sister Carolyn is predeceased by her parents Harry and Teresa Sasso Brambilla, her sisters Angela Brambilla and Marianne (Edwin) Allgaier. She is survived by cousins, Dominican Sisters, Associates and friends.
Sister Carolyn Brambilla made a difference in the lives of countless children, parents, and colleagues, in her teaching ministry and ministry of care to the elderly. For more than 70 years, she proclaimed the Word of God through ministry for justice and reverence for all God’s creation. We thank God for her life and commitment as she is welcomed into the fullness of God’s presence. Well done, good and faithful servant, Sister Carolyn Brambilla, OP! May you rest in peace!
