We and our interfaith partners, particularly Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Pearl River, have been holding prayer vigils for victims of mass shootings in the United States for the past two years. As we read the names, ages, and homes of each person killed, we hold sacred space, and then some of our group will tie the ribbons with their names to a large string of lights. These bright strings of ribbons will be placed in our chapel. They serve as a reminder that each person mattered; they were here, and each was a light in this world. We remember them and hold them and their loved ones in prayer. We stand with those who have been killed or affected by gun violence, and we affirm our unwavering commitment to continued advocacy for peace.
