On February 10, several of our Sisters, along with a Brother, Priest, and Deacon, had the privilege of sharing their vocation stories with the children of St. Pius X Church in Old Tappan, NJ, as part of their Religious Education and Faith Formation program. Sisters Patricia Conway, Christine Ferrar, and Diane McSherry—three faithful Sparkill Dominican women—gave an engaging and heartfelt presentation. Here's a glimpse of their messages. Keep reading to discover how they responded to God’s call and how they continue to be women making a difference.
Sister Diane on the call to obedience:
"Sometimes we have to go and do things that we find very hard or maybe we don't want to do, but then there's blessings in it."
Religious life can be challenging in a good way!
Sr. Chris on community:
"Probably the greatest gift I have now is I have three families. I have my own biological family. I have my Dominican family. And I have my family from Montana, the Native American people."
Religious life allows us to have an expansive sense of family!
Sister Pat on freedom and surprises:
“Being a Sister has freed me to be in touch with many more people in need than if I were married. The one thing I have learned about God is that he is a God of surprises.”
Religious life is an adventure!
The Sisters chuckled when asked what a typical day looks like. While certain elements, like prayer, community life, and service, are constants, they don’t unfold in a rigid or formulaic way each day. Every day brings something new and unexpected. This is who we are.
