Dominican Convent School Brings Smiles and Hope to Flood Victims

Flood Relief Efforts by Dominican Convent Higher Secondary School, Bahawalpur – 2025

Reported by Sister Anna Bakhshi, Principal

Last week, the Dominican Sisters of Our Lady of the Rosary, Bahawalpur, traveled to Abbas Nagar near Dara Bukha, District Bahawalpur, to show solidarity with flood victims and provide them with cooked meals. The devastation was overwhelming—floodwaters had completely submerged farms, and at one point, a large snake slithered through the water, a chilling reminder of the dangers these communities continue to face.

In response, Dominican Convent School organized a Food Collection Drive to support those impacted. On Monday, the Dominican Sisters, together with teachers and students, personally delivered the collected items to families in need.

The First Phase of Food Hamper Distribution: Bringing Smiles and Hope

One of the participants, Khadeeja Haider (Grade 9-B), shared her reflection on the experience of serving families in distress.

This initiative comes in the wake of the devastating floods of summer 2025, when relentless monsoon rains submerged entire villages across Punjab, Pakistan. Homes were destroyed, livelihoods swept away, and thousands of families displaced overnight. The urgent need for food, shelter, and basic necessities called for immediate action.

At this critical moment, Dominican Convent Higher Secondary School responded swiftly and meaningfully. The school organized a flood relief camp to collect and deliver supplies. Students, teachers, and parents worked side by side, donating and preparing hampers filled with flour (atta), sugar, tea leaves, ghee, and other vital goods. Deliveries were made through trusted relief networks to ensure aid reached the most vulnerable. In this first phase, 180 families received food hampers.

This effort was more than the distribution of food—it was a living lesson in empathy, kindness, and unity. Students gained firsthand experience in teamwork, compassion, and civic responsibility through their active participation in the collection and packing process.

Through these relief efforts, Dominican Convent Higher Secondary School showed that even in times of great hardship, a community united in purpose can bring hope and healing. We are humbled and grateful to have played a small part in offering comfort to those who needed it most, and we will continue to share updates as this outreach moves forward.
