Dominican Sisters honored by the Town of Orangetown, NY

On March 22, 2022, the Town Board of Orangetown, NY, honored the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill and the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt for the contributions they have made and continue to make to society. The event was part of the Town’s celebration of Catholic Sisters Week 2022.

In the Proclamation, the Sisters were recognized for their service in a variety of ministries, “including but not limited to education, social services and the health care profession.” The Town Board also highlighted that the Sisters “serve as tireless advocates on behalf of everyone’s basic human right to a quality of life that is consistent with their beliefs and social teaching rooted in the sacredness and dignity of human life."

The motherhouses of both congregations have been located in the Town of Orangetown since the 1880s.
