New Principal named at Aquinas High School

SPARKILL, NY. (August 9, 2018)  The Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, New York, the sponsors and trustees of Aquinas High School in the Bronx, announce that Mr. Mark Shultz has been appointed Principal of Aquinas High School. He succeeds Sister Catherine Rose Quigley who is retiring after a twenty-three-year tenure as Assistant Principal and Principal.

As Principal, Mr. Shultz will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school, including but not limited to all educational and school-based staffing, supervision of programming, and all instructional decision-making. The Principal is appointed by the Board of Trustees and is an ex-officio member of the School Board.

Mr. Shultz was appointed on August 7, 2018following a recommendation by an interview committee and the School Board of Aquinas High School. He will assume the new role on August 15, 2018.

Previously, as the Principal of Philip’s Academy Charter School in Fort Lee, New Jersey, Mr. Shultz oversaw a successful academic program with a 100% graduation rate and 95% acceptance rate of alumni into four-year colleges. He also created a teacher mentoring program in collaboration with Montclair State University. Prior to his tenure as Principal, Mr. Shultz served as Philip’s Academy Associate Head of School, Vice-Principal of St. Jean Baptiste High School, and Adjunct English Professor at St. Thomas Aquinas College.

Sister Mary Murray, OP, President of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, commented, “We are happy to welcome Mr. Shultz; he brings enthusiasm and experience, and we are confident that he and the school’s President, Ms. Anna Parra, will work together to promote and strengthen the life and mission of Aquinas High School.”

Mr. Shultz received a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Master of Divinity, a Master of Arts in English, and Advanced Certification in Supervision and Administration.
