On Friday, May 13, 2023, One to One Learning, Inc., a sponsored ministry of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, celebrated its 26th year of founding at their Hands of Hope Gala. One to One Learning’s mission is to empower immigrants through English classes and supportive services. But the community does so much more. Volunteer teachers and students form prosocial, helping relationships where all are welcomed with mutual respect in pursuit of English literacy. One to One gives off an unmistakable feeling of family and no one is a stranger. Their motto, “Language Empowers; Language Unites,” is true and visionary.
This year the Sparkill Dominican Associates received the Founders Award in recognition of their ongoing commitment and dedication to this ministry. Associates walk alongside the Sisters, participating in the life of the Congregation through their involvement in prayer, study, service, and presence. Throughout the past 26 years of One to One’s existence, the Sparkill Dominican Associates have contributed greatly to the cause. Associates, Sisters, volunteers, students, board members, benefactors, family, and friends are all part of the beloved community that is One to One Learning.
