We are thrilled to share that our very own Sister Meg Sweeney has been inducted into the St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) Hall of Fame!
At the 28th Annual Hall of Fame and Reunion Celebration, held on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Pearl River Hilton, Sister Meg was recognized as a distinguished alumna for her exceptional contributions and outstanding career.
A proud Spartan, Sister Meg earned both her Bachelor’s degree and Master of Business Administration from STAC. She has dedicated her life to service, education, and leadership—embodying the values of the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary (Sparkill Dominicans).
The Hall of Fame Journal described her remarkable journey best:
Drawing from her background in finance and administration, Sister Meg served as Administrative Assistant at St. Anthony School in Nanuet for sixteen years, followed by a year as Bookkeeper at Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point. She was later appointed Treasurer of the Sparkill Dominicans, and just two years later, was elected to Congregational Leadership, a role she faithfully held until 2010.
Sister Meg’s commitment to mission and justice has extended across various national and religious organizations. She has been a member of the National Association of Treasurers of Religious Institutes, the Coalition of Religious Treasurers, Investor Advocates for Social Justice, the Leadership Council of Women Religious, and the Dominican Leadership Conference.
Since 2014, she has served as Chief Financial Officer for the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of New York. In this role, she sits on numerous ministry boards and is a member of the Board of Trustees at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Yonkers, contributing her expertise to their Finance Committee.
Currently, Sister Meg continues to give back to her alma mater as a dedicated member of the STAC Board of Trustees, where she serves on both the Campus Planning and Audit Committees.
For nearly 50 years, Sister Meg has faithfully lived out her vocation as a Dominican Sister of Sparkill—a true Woman Making a Difference. Through her unwavering commitment to “Proclaiming the Reign of God through Ministry for Justice and Reverence for all Creation,” she continues to share her gifts and talents wherever they are most needed.
In her heartfelt acceptance remarks, Sister Meg reflected on the honor with characteristic grace and humor:
“To be among the great minds of theology and scholarship — well, it’s really quite overwhelming! Let me assure you, I’m the first to say I’m here simply because, it seems, God wants me here. I want to thank the St. Thomas Aquinas Hall of Fame Committee for their kindness in believing I was worthy of this honor.
Listening to the urges of the Spirit has led me to the most joyous moments of my life. And I believe the Spirit moves not only in me but in you as well. So pay attention to those stirrings… never underestimate the power of faith… and always keep a good sense of humor. After all, if Thomas Aquinas could write all those books without Google, surely we, too, can achieve greatness—with a little help from above.”
Congratulations, Sister Meg! Your legacy continues to inspire all who know you.
