Sister Adele Myers, OP

Sister Adele Myers, OP, of Dominican Convent, Sparkill, New York, died on November 7, 2015 in Siena Hall, Sparkill, NY.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 4, 1925, Ottilia Anna was the daughter of Everett E. and Anna Menig Myers. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1944 and received the name Sister Ann Edward. She professed her first vows in 1946 and her final vows in 1951.

Sister Adele earned a BS in Education, Fordham University, NY, 1956 and a MA in Painting, Villa Schifanoia, Italy, 1961.

Sister Adele ministered in the Archdiocese of NY in child care and as an elementary, high school and college teacher. She served at Cardinal McCloskey Home, White Plains, NY (1946-51); St. Agnes Home, Sparkill, NY (1951-53); St. Rose of Lima, New York, NY (1953-55); Our Lady of Grace, Bronx, NY (1955-56); Msgr. Scanlon HS, Bronx, NY (1956-60); Albertus Magnus HS, Bardonia, NY (1961-62) and St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, NY (1962-2000) while at the same time managed Thorpe Intermedia Gallery in Sparkill from 1976-1991. Sr. Adele was an artist in residence at Dominican Convent from 1986-2013. During this time she was a part-time instructor at Thorpe Village and was very busy with art exhibitions especially in the Rockland County area. Her works have won her renowned recognition and she has been the recipient of many honors and awards.

Sister Adele is survived by her nieces and nephews, Debbie Fahlman, Ashville, NC; Sister Mariane Fahlman, OP, Detroit, MI; Robert Fahlman (Debbie), Willowick, OH; Terrence Fahlman (Debbie), Palm Harbor, FL and Adele Sutter (Scott), Oldsmar, FL. She will be missed by her grandnieces, grandnephews, friends, and her Dominican family, Sisters and Associate of Sparkill.

Sister Adele was faithful to the God she loved and to the life she chose as a Dominican sister for seventy-one years. We will remember her for her generous spirit and giftedness as an artist. We thank God for her life and her goodness. May the Lord shine His light upon her and give her eternal rest in the kingdom of heaven.
