Sister Anne McNeive, OP

Sister Anne McNeive, OP, of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, New York, died on October 7, 2014 in St. Louis, MO. Born in St. Louis on September 28, 1932, Anne was the daughter of James and Mary Coleman McNeive. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1951, and became known as Sister James Marie. She professed her first vows in 1953 and her final vows in 1958.

Sister earned a B.A. in Education from Webster College, MO and a MSW in Social Work from Fordham University, NY.

During her professional life, Sister Anne ministered in the Archdioceses of New York and St. Louis. She taught at St. John Chrysostom, NY (1953-54), Little Flower, St. Louis (1954-56), St. Mark, St. Louis (1956-57), St. James, St. Louis (1957-67) and Epiphany, St. Louis (1967-73). From 1973 – 2002 Sister Anne was a social worker serving at the Catholic Home Bureau in NYC, at Catholic Charities in St. Louis, MO and the Division of Family Services in St. Louis. Sister Anne also assisted as a telemarketer for Catholic Extension Services, did volunteer work for St. Vincent de Paul Society, and gave hospice care at Nazareth Center.

Sister Anne is predeceased by her parents, James and Mary, and her brother James. She is survived by her sisters Elizabeth and Kathleen McNeive (St. Louis, MO), and her sister-in-law Patricia McNeive (St. Louis, MO). She was the beloved aunt of Anne (Rick) Maus, Kathleen McNeive, and great-nephews Matthew, Eric, and Patrick, and great-niece Rachel.

We will remember Sister Anne for her gentle manner and her kindness to all. When you were in her presence you were made to feel at home and welcomed. As an educator and social worker Sister Anne was committed to bringing the word of the gospel message to all she met. She did this by using the gifts and talents God had blessed her with and she made a difference in the lives of many. Sister Anne was committed to her life as a Dominican Sister and remained faithful to her call for sixty-three years. We commend her to the God she loved and we ask the good Lord to give her peace among the company of the saints in heaven.
