Sister Barbara Jane Falloon, OP

Sister Barbara Jane Falloon, OP, of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, New York, died peacefully in Siena Hall on June 27, 2015.

Born in Staten Island, NY on June 25, 1933, Barbara was the daughter of William and Margaret McGinley Falloon. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1955 and received the name Sister Barbara Jane. She professed her first vows in 1957 and her final vows in 1962.

Sister earned a B.S. in Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, NY and a MS in Education from City College of New York, NY.

During her professional life, Sister was a teacher who served in the in the dioceses of Brooklyn, NY, Wilmington, DE and the Archdiocese of New York. She taught at St. Helena, Bronx, NY (1958-65); Mary Queen of Heaven, Brooklyn, NY (1965-67); Sts. Peter & Paul Easton, MD (1967-69); St. Martin of Tours, Bronx, NY (1969-70); Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Middletown, NY (1970-73); Sacred Heart, Suffern (1973-88); and Holy Name of Jesus, New Rochelle, NY (teacher, 1988-97) and (Coordinator of Religious Ed.1998-2013). In 2014 Sr. Barbara Jane retired to Dominican Convent.

Sister Barbara Jane is predeceased by her parents William and Margaret Falloon and her siblings William Falloon, Jr., Mary Ellen, Joan and Patricia Falloon. She is survived by her sisters Elizabeth Hunt, Margaret Falloon, Sr. Anne Marie Falloon, SC, and Roger (Rosemary) Falloon. She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and friends.

We will remember her for her commitment to ministry and her faithfulness to the God whom she served so well for sixty years as a Dominican Sister of Sparkill. We thank God for her life and her goodness. May the Lord shine His light upon her and give her eternal rest in the kingdom of heaven.
