Sister Carole Valentino OP, of the Dominican Sisters, Sparkill, New York, died on March 28, 2024 in Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville, NY. Sister was 86 years old and in her 66th year of religious life.
Born in New York City on December 29, 1937, Carole was the daughter of Alfred and Michelina Tricarico Valentino. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1958 and received the name Sister Michael Patrick. She professed first vows in 1960 and final vows in 1965.
Sister Carole received a BS in Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, NY,1962; an MSE in Special Education from City College, NYC,1972; and a PhD in Psychology from City College, NYC, 1986.
Sister Carole’s ministry of education included St. John Chrysostom School, Bronx, NY (1966-1967); St. Rita School, Bronx, NY (1960-1961); St. Helena School, Bronx, NY (1961-1962); St. Mary Magdalen School, Springfield Gardens, NY (1962-1966); St. Joseph School, Bronx, NY (1966-1967, 1970-1972); St. Edmund School, Brooklyn, NY (1967-1968). She served in the NYC Department of Education: Coordinator/Teacher, Transitional Class Program (1983-1985); Supervisor of Special Education (1986-1988); Director of Pupil Personnel, District 11 (1988-1994); and Principal of M.S 135, Bronx, NY (1995-2002). From 1978-2008, Sister Carole was an Adjunct Professor at St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, NY; City College, NYC; Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, NY; and the College of New Rochelle.
Sister Carole is predeceased by her parents Alfred and Michelina Tricarico Valentino. She is survived by her sister Evelyn Valentino, cousins, and her Dominican Sisters, Associates, and friends.
Sister Carole made a difference in the lives of many in her many years of teaching and educational administration. She worked tirelessly to promote the value of education in Catholic and public schools. She lived out her commitment to the goal of the Dominican Sisters in her ministry to families in the Bronx. May she be welcomed into the fullness of God’s presence. Rest in peace, Sister Carole! May you be held in the palm of God’s hand.
