Sister Janet Vietor, OP

Sister Janet Vietor, OP entered eternal life on April 22, 2021 in St. Louis, MO. She was 71 years old.

Born in St. Louis, MO on June 16, 1949, Janet Marie was the daughter of Earl and Helen Saali Vietor. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on August 30, 1967 and received the name Sister Janet Therese. She professed her first vows in 1969 and final vows in 1978.

Sister Janet received a BS in Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, NY, 1978, and an MAT in Elementary Education from Webster University, St. Louis, MO, 1993.

Sister Janet began her teaching ministry at St. Augustine School, New City, NY (1970-1974). Upon her return to St. Louis, MO, Sister Janet was an elementary school teacher at Little Flower School, Richmond Heights, MO (1974-2006) and Our Lady of Providence School, St. Louis, MO (2009-2011). From 2011- 2014, she served as Administrative Assistant at Nia Kuumba Spirituality Center. In 2000, the Little Flower School community recognized Sister Janet’s 26 years of commitment to the mission of education at Little Flower School when they celebrated the presence of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill since 1931.

Sister Janet is predeceased by her parents Earl and Helen Saali Vietor and her brother Timothy (Carol). She is survived by her sisters Joan Glassman (Stephen), Kathy Kroll, Carol Zinko and nieces, nephews, cousins and her Dominican Sisters and Associates.

Sister Janet made a difference in the lives of countless children in her ministry of educating the mind, heart, and spirit of her students. She lived the goal of the Dominican Sisters, joyfully proclaiming the Reign of God through ministry for justice and reverence for all creation for over 50 years. We thank God for Sister Janet as she is welcomed into the fullness of God’s presence. Well done, good and faithful servant, Sister Janet Vietor, OP. May you rest in peace!
