Sister Margaret Strychalski OP of the Dominican Sisters, Sparkill, New York, died on September 22, 2026, in Siena Hall, Dominican Convent, Sparkill. Margaret was 90 years old and in her 71st year of religious life.
Born in New York City on June 30, 1936, Margaret was the daughter of Anthony and Frances Jesiolowski Strychalski. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1955, and received the name Sister Raymond Mary. She professed her first vows in 1957 and her final vows in 1962.
Sister Margaret earned a BS in Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, NY, 1960; her MS in Education from Brooklyn College; and Certification in Administration and Supervision from Manhattan College, Bronx, NY, 1981.
Sister Margaret began her teaching ministry at St. Helena School, Bronx, NY (1957-1960); Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Middletown, NY (1960-1963); St. James School, Carmel, NY (1963-1967); Mary Queen of Heaven School, Brooklyn, NY (1967-1978); and Principal of Most Precious Blood School, Walden, NY (1978-2010).
Sister Margaret is predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Frances, and her brother, George. She is survived by her nephew, Kevin Strychalski, and her Dominican Sisters and Associates.
Sister Margaret made a difference in the lives of countless children and families in her ministry of education as a teacher and principal, especially at Most Precious Blood School and Parish in Walden, NY. She faithfully lived the Dominican Sisters’ goal of proclaiming the reign of God through ministry for justice and reverence for all creation. May she be welcomed into the fullness of God’s presence—well done, good and faithful servant, Sister Margaret Strychalski—rest in peace!
