Sister Margaret Thomas Morahan OP, of Dominican Convent, Sparkill, New York, died on August 18, 2015 in Siena Hall, Sparkill, NY.

Born in Manhattan, NY on March 1, 1923, Frances was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Dermody Morahan. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1942 and received the name Sister Margaret Thomas. She professed her first vows in 1944 and her final vows in 1949.

Sister Margaret Thomas earned a BS in Education from Fordham University in 1949.

Sister Margaret Thomas had a varied ministry. She was an elementary school teacher in St. Mary, Fulton, NY (1944-47), St. Columba, Chester, NY (1947-48), St. Teresa, Brooklyn, NY (1948-51), Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middleton, NY (1962-67), Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Brooklyn, NY (1967-70), Union Free School, NY (1972-77), St. Augustine, New City, NY (1978-80), and St. Gregory, Garnerville, NY (1980-86).

She ministered in child care at St. Agnes Home and School for Children (1951-53 and 1970-72). She served in a clerical position at St. Ignatius Day Nursery, Manhattan, NY (1953-62), St. Agnes Home and School for Children (1977-78) and Salesian High School (1988-89). In Dominican Convent she worked in the Heritage Program (1986-88), Gift Shop (1989-1994) and in the Development Office

(1991-2009).

Sister Margaret Thomas is predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Margaret Morahan, her sister, Margaret C. Morahan, brother, Thomas P. Morahan, and niece, Theresa Morahan Simmons. She is survived by her sister, Sister Marie Joseph Morahan, OP, sister-in-law, Helen Morahan, and six nieces, Margaret (James) Casola, Helen Travers (William), Maureen Pehush (Joseph), Joan Silvestri (Joseph), Nancy Shine (Michael), Eileen Barker (Charles), 17 great nieces and nephews, and three great grandnieces.

Sister Margaret Thomas will be missed by her loving family and friends. We will remember her for her patience in life and her kindness to those she encountered. She was faithful to the God she served so well for seventy-two years as a Dominican Sister of Sparkill. We thank God for her life and her goodness. May the Lord shine His light upon her and give her eternal rest in the kingdom of heaven.
