Sister Marianne Morelli, OP died on April 9, 2020 in Dominican Convent, Sparkill, NY. She was 84 years old.
Born in New York City on May 1, 1935, Marianne was the daughter of Charles and Carmela Marchese Morelli. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1953 and received the name Sister Carmel Marie. She professed her first vows in 1955 and final vows in 1960.
Sister Marianne received a BS in Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, NY in 1958; and an MA in Mathematics from Manhattan College, Bronx, NY in 1969.
Sister Marianne’s ministry in education includes St. Agnes Home & School, Sparkill, NY (1955 -1956); Our Lady of Grace School, Bronx, NY (1956-1958); St. James School, Carmel, NY (1958-1961); St. Edmund HS, Brooklyn, NY (1961-1972); Albertus Magnus HS, Bardonia, NY (1972-1985); and Bergen Catholic HS (1985-1994). From 1995-2011, Sister Marianne was Market Coordinator for Dowling Gardens, Sparkill, NY.
Sister Marianne is predeceased by her parents Charles and Carmela Marchese Morelli and her brother, Anthony Michael. She is survived by her nieces Edythe and Maryanne and nephews Charles and Joseph.
Sister Marianne touched the lives of countless people in her teaching ministry and ministry to the elderly. She was committed to the mission of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill for more than 66 years, proclaiming the word of God through ministry for justice.May she be welcomed into the fullness of God’s presence—well done good and faithful servant, Sister Marianne Morelli.
