Sister Mary Angelica Culhane, OP

Sister Mary Angelica Culhane, OP, of the Dominican Sisters, Sparkill, New York, died on October 29, 2016 in Siena Hall, Sparkill, NY.

Born in New York, NY on June 8, 1919, Claire was the daughter of Thomas and Anna Lennon Culhane. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1941 and received the name Sister Mary Angelica. She professed her first vows in 1943 and her final vows in 1948.

Sister Mary Angelica received a BA in English, Manhattan College, New York in 1953 and her LPN from the University of The State of New York in 1979. Sister Mary Angelica taught and served in the Archdiocese of NY at St. John Chrysostom, Bronx (1943-46); Cardinal McCloskey Home, White Plains (1946-47); St. Agnes School, Sparkill (1947-49); St. Joseph School, Bronx (1949-52); St. Ann School, Bronx (1952-53); St. Teresa School, Woodside (1953-55 / 1964-72); St. Anthony School, Nanuet (1955-64); and St. Catherine of Siena School, New York (1972-73). Sister ministered at Rosary Academy, Sparkill (1973-76) and St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill (1976-78). From 1976- 2005, Sister Mary Angelica was a nurse’s aide in Dominican Convent, Siena Hall, and continued to reside there until her death.

Sister Mary Angelica is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Anna.

Sister Mary Angelica was faithful to the God she loved and to the life she chose as a Dominican Sister. We will remember her for her generous spirit. We are grateful for her eighty years in religious life and thank God for her life and her goodness. May the Lord shine His light upon her and give her eternal rest in the kingdom of heaven.
