Sister Patricia Keating, OP, of the Dominican Sisters, Sparkill, New York, died on April 27, 2017 in Siena Hall, Sparkill, NY.
Born in Bronx, NY on November 10, 1942, Patricia was the daughter of Patrick and Abina Barry Keating. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1960 and received the name Sister Kevin Michael. She professed her first vows in 1962 and her final
Sister Patricia received a BS in Education, St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, NY in 1965 and her MA in Urban Affairs from St. Louis University, MO in 1978.
Sister Patricia served in the Archdiocese of New York as a teacher in St. Anthony School, Nanuet (1962-1965). In 1965, Sister Patricia went to St. Louis and taught in St. Mark’s/DePorres School (1965-1980); Bishop Healy School (1980-1981) and Holy Guardian Angels School where she served as Principal from 1981-1984. In 1984, Sister Patricia was elected to Congregational Leadership serving as a member of the Executive Team from 1984-1988 and was then elected President. Sister Patricia served two four-year terms (1988-1996). From 1997-2005, Sister Patricia served as Regional Coordinator for Catholic Charities and Vicar for Religious in Charleston, SC, then served as Director of Neighborhood House until 2011.She continued in ministry in Charleston before returning to Dominican Convent in 2016.
Sister Patricia is predeceased by her parents Patrick and Abina Barry Keating and her brother Philip. She is survived by her brother Thomas and several nieces and nephews.
Sister Patricia Keating was a kind and compassionate person. She served her God and congregation faithfully for over fifty-seven years as a Dominican Sister of Sparkill. We thank God for her life and her goodness and we pray she be brought swiftly into the fullness of joy in the presence of the God she loved and so faithfully served. We will miss her presence among us.
