Sister Veronica Marie Isaacson, OP

Sister Veronica Marie Isaacson, OP, of Dominican Convent, Sparkill, New York, died on November 9, 2012 in Siena Hall Infirmary, Sparkill, NY. Born in the Brooklyn, NY on March 27, 1930, June Ann was the daughter of Andrew and Anna Hayes Isaacson. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1950 and became known as Sister Veronica Marie, professing her first vows in 1953 and her final vows in 1958. Sister Veronica Marie earned a BS in Education from Fordham University, NY, and a MS in Education from Hunter College, NY and Certification in School Administration and Supervision from Manhattan College, NY.

During her professional life, Sister Veronica Marie was a teacher, guidance counselor and administrator. She served in the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Brooklyn at St. Helena Elementary, Bronx, NY (1953-56); St. Catherine of Siena, NY, NY (1956-61); Mary Queen of Heaven, Brooklyn, NY (1961-64); St. Rose of Lima, NY, NY (1964-68); and St. Helena/Msgr. Scanlan High School, Bronx, NY (1968-2005). In 2005 Sr. Veronica Marie retired and in 2009 she became a resident in Siena Hall at the Motherhouse of the Dominican Sisters. Sister Veronica Marie is survived by her sister Virginia Hunt (Eugene) of Pittsburgh, PA and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

We will remember Sr. Veronica Marie for her compassion and loyalty to the students she counseled over the years. This compassion and loyalty extended to her Dominican community whom she served faithfully for sixty-two years. We thank God for her life and her goodness. May she rest in peace and joy in the arms of her loving God.
