Ribbons of Remembrance

We and our interfaith partners, particularly Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Pearl River, have been holding prayer vigils for victims of mass shootings in the United States for the past two years. As we read the names, ages and home of each person killed, we held sacred space and then some of our group tied the ribbons to a large string of lights. These bright strings of ribbons were then placed outside our places of worship. They served as a reminder that each person mattered, each was a light in this world. We remembered them and  held them and their loved ones in prayer as we passed by. Over the past two years we have amassed over 1,300 ribbons of names of persons killed in mass shootings and we would now like to lay them to rest in a respectful way. On Saturday, March 23 during our prayer vigil, we will place these ribbons of remembrance in the sacred ground of our St. Agnes Cemetery. We stand with those who have been killed by gun violence in life and we will rest with these ribbons in our own death.

UPDATE: DUE TO PREDICTION OF RAIN, THIS EVENT WILL BE HELD IN THE SISTERS' CHAPEL LOCATED IN DOMINICAN CONVENT.
