Celebrating Sister Rushana’s First Profession

Loving Greetings and Congratulations to you from Pakistan!

It is a great joy to announce that we have another young Sister, Rushana Younas, who declared her first profession of religious vows on the 13th of January 2024 in Multan. Her solemn mass was celebrated by his excellency, Bishop Yousaf Sohan. The ceremony was inspirational and blessed and was well attended. Her family was very happy for Rushana and grateful for the services of our Sisters. It was a day filled with peace and celebration. Rushana is a beautiful and joyful Sister and we have high hopes for her. Our community is delighted as she takes another step forward in religious life and we pray for her perseverance and faithfulness to her call. Sister will now live in the Multan community and will teach at Dominican Middle School, Raza Abad Multan. She also will be studying as a University student to complete her masters in English. We wish her success in the future. Let us continue to pray, encourage, and support our young Sisters as they are a bright future for our Congregation.

Congratulations and God Bless us all in Christ,

Sister Nusrat Lewis, Regional Representative for PakistanSr. Nusrat Lewis

Dear Sisters, Associates, and friends,

Greetings from Multan Pakistan! Thank you very much for your prayers and support for my First Profession, which took place on Saturday, January 13, 2024, in the Most Holy Redeemer Cathedral in Multan, Pakistan. The arrival of my family from Hafizabad, which is 7 hours by train, was wonderful and contributed to a very pleasant and grace-filled day. Bishop Yousaf Sohan, the Bishop of Multan, offered holy Mass with four priests. The reading from the Gospels was John 12:24-26. The bishop related my life to “the grain of wheat” and I believe that truly God has blessed me with new life. I pray that God may help me to become a “life for others.”

The liturgy was exceptional, and the choir sang beautiful hymns. My family was very happy and said they felt at home. The Sisters' hospitality was excellent and we shared delicious food. I enjoyed the time of sharing gifts because all the Sisters and my family members were there and they were my strength. They gave me many blessings and gifts before returning home safely.

I am so thankful to take another step in my religious life. I feel that God has anointed me to bring the good news to the poor of the present time. I feel God is with me to guide me so that I may work in his vineyard. I remembered the words of the song sung by Michael John Poirier during my last retreat given by our Sister Margaret Palliser. We often sang “I will be the strength for the journey,” and I am sure of this.

Thank you, once again, for all your prayers and support. I am honored and proud to be a Sparkill Dominican. I often remember the words of our foundress Alice Mary Thorpe, “IF YOU ARE FAITHFUL, YOU WILL BE GRATEFUL; AND IF YOU ARE GRATEFUL, YOU WILL BE FAITHFUL.” Amen. With Prayers and Best Wishes,

Sister Rushana Younas, Teacher at Dominican Middle School, Raza Abad
