The leaders of 161 Catholic colleges and universities, religious congregations, national organizations, and health care providers serving people and communities in every state of the nation, have issued a letter to President Trump and the US Congress in support of climate change science, funding, and international policy negotiations. The letter was organized by the Catholic Climate Covenant and signed by Sparkilll President, Sr. Mary Murray, OP, on behalf of the Congregation.
“How we care for one another and how we care for the Earth are intimately connected, and are part of the work of witnessing to the Gospel today. In 2016, our community recommitted ourselves to ‘proclaiming the Reign of God through ministry for justice and reverence for all creation.’ In advocating to maintain a healthier planet, this letter to the President and Congress reflects our commitment to reverence all of God’s creation and to act for justice on behalf of all vulnerable people, societies, and situations in our world that need a voice,” said Sr. Mary Murray.
Most Rev. Richard Pates, Bishop of Des Moines and United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)-appointed Liaison to Catholic Climate Covenant, shared that that letter “demonstrates a broad, unified Catholic desire for American leadership on climate change.”
