Saints and Saintly Dominicans, Óscar Romero

On Tuesday, November 26, 3:30pm, at Dominican Convent in Sparkill, Sister Kathleen McManus, OP, will explore Romero’s conversion story and its revolutionary import: “One would think that Oscar Romero, martyr for justice and now canonized saint, didn’t need to be “converted.” He was a life-long devout Catholic who became a priest. Yet, this reserved, conservative, scholarly priest underwent a profound conversion through encounter with the suffering of his people, illuminated by the death of his dear friend, Fr. Rutilio Grande, martyred on their behalf. Romero lived through a gradual process of conversion that ultimately formed him into a Prophet of Liberation and Truth, which is what has made him a saint.”

Saints and Saintly Dominicans is a series of reflections on men and women from our rich Catholic Tradition, including well-known saints (many from our Dominican Family) as well as newer faces among those whom the Church recognizes as “holy.”

There is no fee for the event, but you are kindly asked to pre-register below.  A video recording will also be made available to those who register.
