Rejoicing in the Waiting

Elizabeth Guzman preaches at Advent Vespers

These three readings exemplify what Advent is all about—praising God in the waiting, loving each other, blessing others with our light because we are blessed with the light of Christ, and thanking God for every moment.

Advent is traditionally seen as a season of anticipation, a time to prepare for the birth of Christ so that we may celebrate His arrival. But maybe we can focus more on rejoicing in the waiting, knowing that Jesus is going to be born, and having the privilege of preparing ourselves for the coming of our savior.

These four weeks of preparation each have a significance that exemplifies how we can rejoice in this journey toward the birth of our Lord Jesus….

Let us prepare with…

Hope - a word to describe our attitudes.
Peace -  something we should feel within our souls.
Joy - the feeling we should have when doing things according to God's will.
Love - a word to describe who Jesus is and what we should be filled with.

As we light these candles each week, the fire symbolizes Christ's light of love, hope, joy, and peace.
